YotaPhone 2 Has Two Screens, No Waiting

If you own a smartphone, there’s probably been a point where you wished you could just double the screens, or flip over your phone to do one thing while it chews through another task. Sadly, smartphone manufacturers have largely ignored our pleas to use two screens at once, or need us to boot up a laptop to do it. The YotaPhone 2, though, has one screen in front and another in back.

Paperboy

How? ePaper! The front of the YotaPhone 2 is the usual touchscreen, a nice big five-incher, while the back is a 4.7″ EPD screen that shows content in greyscale. Both sides are under Gorilla Glass to protect them. And, what’s most interesting is that the usage is pretty much limitless.

For example, all the stuff that’s normally crammed on your screen, and that you have to turn your phone on to look at, is instead on the EPD side. It’s got a dashboard tool as well, so you can put together a few widgets and always have the information you need displayed on the back of your phone.

Another nice touch is how it uses this for a low-power mode; if your battery’s low, the YotaPhone can switch over to just using the back screen, so you can still take texts and make calls as you find a charger.

Double The Screens, Double The Fun

The YotaPhone may have a somewhat gimmicky idea, or so it seems at first, but the more you think about it, the more practical and even smart the thing is. If nothing else, it will ensure your batteries last longer and that you won’t have to flip on your phone for the most basic information gathering. Whether that’s worth $525, well, that depends on how efficient you want to be.
